Our team

Denise Maxwell, Principal

Denise is the principal of our firm. Denise has been a lawyer since 1989 and has extensive experience in a wide range of areas of law. Before starting our firm in 1998, Denise worked in various legal practices in Kenmore, Southport, Brisbane and Mackay. Denise mainly looks after business matters, commercial leases and lesbian and gay legal issues. Denise also keeps an eye on the rest of our team.

Sarah Flower, Special Counsel
 Accredited Family Law Specialist

Sarah joined our team on 26th October 2009 as Special Counsel. Sarah is an Accredited Family Law Specialist. She has extensive experience in complex relationship property matters and children’s matters, having practised in these areas since 1999. Sarah gained her specialist accreditation in Family Law in 2004. Sarah and Denise have known each other for nine years through their mutual involvement on the Management Committee of the Womens Legal Service Queensland Inc.

Sally Burdon, Senior Associate

Sally works for us part-time. Her career as a lawyer started 2002 and she has worked in NSW, England and Queensland. She became part of our team in 2008. Sally mainly looks after court matters, deceased estates and advice about general legal issues.

Atoa Aiolupotea, Senior Solicitor

Atoa joined our team as a Senior Solicitor on 25 February 2010. Atoa was admitted as a solicitor in 2001 and, apart from her first year as a solicitor, has practised exclusively in family and defacto relationship law throughout her career. Underneath Atoa’s warm, friendly personality lies a steely determination to obtain the best outcome for her clients.

Allison Baxter, Conveyancing Paralegal

Allison and Denise first worked together in 1988 when Denise was fresh out of law school. They remained friends and Allison came to work for us in 2001 as our Conveyancing Paralegal. Allison looks after our conveyancing matters under Denise’s watchful eye.

Carmel Murphy, Receptionist and Secretary

Carmel is our friendly and helpful receptionist. She has been part of our team since 2006. Carmel is also secretary to Denise and our solicitors and keeps our office ticking over.

Carol Hudson, Accounts Manager and Conveyancing Support

Carol joined our team as our Accounts Manager in April 2009. Prior to joining us Carol managed her own successful legal services support business. In between running our accounts section and assisting Allison, Carol finds time to win gold medals in water polo at the Masters Games and be inducted into the Queensland Water Polo Hall of Fame.
